Yes, sounds strange doesn’t it that heat is used to cool things. And Solar energy is frequently used in residential homes to heat water. But the fact is, since solar energy can be directly converted to electricity and most, if not all of our household appliances use electricity, solar power in effect can be and is used to cool things down.
Of all the energy sources available, solar has perhaps the most promise.
(1) Numerically, it is capable of producing the raw power required to satisfy the entire planet’s energy needs. It has been doing so for thousands of years.
(2) Environmentally, it is one of the least destructive of all our current sources of energy.
(3) Practically, it can be adjusted to power nearly everything electrical, even transportation (with some modest modifications).
So clearly, solar energy is a resource of the future and should not be ignored simply because current photovoltaic cells are not efficient enough.
